ICv2 on the 100,000-Book Donation

ICv2

ICv2’s Brigid Alverson covers ComicBooks For Troops’ largest donation ever: 100,000 Digital Lizards of Doom graphic novels for military families in five states.
ICv2 reports that ComicBooks For Troops (CB4T) has distributed 100,000 Digital Lizards of Doom graphic novels to military families through service agencies in Illinois, North Carolina, Colorado, Virginia and Washington, DC, the largest single donation the charity has ever made.
CB4T is the sister organization of ComicBooks For Kids!, the nonprofit Mark Weiss founded in 2017 to put free comics in the hands of children in hospitals and cancer centers. Weiss and Digital Lizards of Doom creator Gabriel Valentin hatched the plan at a ComicsPRO reception, after Valentin raised how many fourth graders read below grade level, a gap that widens for kids who move with a deployed parent.

A private investor funded the donation, and Papercutz parent company Mad Cave handled distribution and fulfillment. In the announcement, Weiss said the goal was to do something impactful that had never been done on this scale.
ComicBooks For Kids! turns ten soon, and ICv2 notes the group also partners with retailers and DC Comics on special variant covers. We’re grateful to Mark Weiss and everyone at CB4T for putting these stories where they matter most.
